Would like to know all the happenings behind the scenes, because it's odd that a film that's only recently been in production has been snapped up, according to a little snippet of information from Media Blasters Anime Expo announcements... suspect that, as with many things, it's a meeting of finances and choices -- they (MB) want the film, the company wants X amount of money, they (MB) think it's not too expensive -- more than it is a true speculate to accumulate situation, where less films are licensed because they cost so much more and there's a sense it's worth the risk.
Given Miike is less of a speculation than most figures (it would at least seem, given the proliferation of DVD releases of his work in America) I'm wondering where Waru, Ryu Ga Gotoku, and Sun Scarred (Taiyu No Kizu) will end up; Big Bang Love, Jeuvenile A has as home. Although Taiyu No Kizu does at least have an official English Title, suggesting it's with someone, and Sukiyaki Western : Django is from a much larger international company and is likely to be distributed on an international basis.
MB also confirmed and announced Zebraman, Devilman, Exte (Hair Extensions, by Sion Sono), Scrap Heaven, RedEye and some Shaw Brothers films. Of course, 'Kite Liberator' is still coming too. A couple of things from this expo that stand out from other companies include the old Silent Mobius movies from Bandai, and the manga for both Gantz and Blood (as in 'The Last Vampire') from Dark Horse. It has been months since Zebraman was confirmed, I wonder if it will ever actually show up.
MB stole the show at AX this year. MB you are my hero!
We're not gonna get much in the way of titles for the Shaw Bros movies because they have to conceal them to avoid bootleggers pre-emptively booting them ahead of time to cut in to sales.
Trash like stiller66.
Hence why's theirs never been a concrete list of DD or Image's shaws that they aquired other then a few of the marquee titles that get mentioned.
Linn at KFF has said it's all Martial Arts films with maybe one Horror so we can only speculate.
Well, I was rooting for stuff like CORPSE MANIA that's only been available on (probably cut) VCD in HK. Guess I can forget about that if they focused on martial arts flicks.
