Some interesting news on the Twin Peaks front, though likely not quite as good as many may have hoped.
Here's the good news. If you've been holding out on buying the seperately released season sets hoping for a lower cost complete edition - one that includes a properly remastered version of the pilot episode - then your patience is about to be rewarded. Slated for an October release, the Twin Peaks Definitive edition will include every episode of the series, including the pilot which has finally been freed from its North American legal limbo. This is good.
The bad news? The pilot aint gonna be available as a standalone release any time soon. And the ‘definitive' release will not include any of the deleted scenes sitting in the vault because Lynch doesn't want to release them in their current degraded state and the studio refuses to pay for the restoration. So basically all that's new on this from other releases will be a few interviews.
It's nice that the pilot's available in some form and all, but this smells to me like a big corporate conglomerate putting in minimal effort for maximum gain - i.e. a cash grab - rather than actually giving the series the treatment it really deserves.

I have bought neither of the series yet (didn't want to buy 1 without the pilot, didn't want to buy 2 without 1), so consider me interested!!!

when will someone start hiring real designers to design the packaging? come on. hopefully the menus on this one won't suck as bad as the newly released season 2; those are horridly designed.
artisan did a great job on season 1, btw. most likely because they know what they're doing when it comes to packaging design.
I believe Artisan's rights expired on Season 1, which is why that set has been out of print for some time. So if you never got Season 1 when it came out -- or you lost it when moving, like I did -- this is good news indeed. The pilot has only been available on a crappy Region 0 release, so that's good too. Still, would be nice to have a super duper *definite* edition. And my only problem with the cover is the color - otherwise it looks like a screen shot from the opening credits.
I haven't actually seen Twin Peaks(I've seen the "backwards dance" though), but I was told it'd be right up my alley. I can't say I'm really gonna miss the deleted stuff if I haven't even seen the series yet, though. I've heard people compare Pete & Pete to it. Is that an accuarate comparison?
The pilot was on the R2 release of the first set. Still haven't got season 2, mostly because the series started to lose it's ground after resolving the mystery of the first season.
I have the Korean R3 first series. This too has the pilot. Why is there a problem with the pilot in the US?
