It's news that shouldn't really surprise anyone considering the company also released his much loved films Voices of a Distant Star and Place Promised in Our Early Days but it's now official that ADV Films have picked up North American rights to Makoto Shinkai's 5cm Per Second. The pleasant surprise in this announcement, though, is that they intend to give the film a theatrical release, which I believe will be a first for Shinkai in North America.
