The Weinstein Company have picked up the North American, UK, and Austrailian rights to Shinya Tsukamoto's upcoming film, Nightmare Detective. While it releases in January in Japan, one tends to wonder (again, and again, and again) how long before we see it in English speaking territories and how the Brothers W. will fiddle with the auteur's new work.
Hands up those who will be importing the R2-Japan DVD.

no one will be able to import the R2 cause -- like with Hero -- the Weinsteins will lean on legit import retailers and threaten them with legal action simply for importing legal non-US dvds.
and that's yet another reason why they are no fan of film.
If it's in January, you won't be able to find the DVD anywhere (at least for rentals) in the US except one place: Blockbuster Video.

I hope that the weinsteins dont mess with it. whats the point of messing with something that in the end only a select few are gonna want to watch? and want original cuts? so what they end up doing in the end is cutting into their own profits.
Edit: Just noticed that Yesasia actually has a U.S. branch (you can probably tell I don't use them much), so they probably weren't a good example. But the point stands: it's only parallel importing (i.e. importing stuff into the country and reselling it) that causes trouble -- individuals are allowed to import merchandise from retailers abroad for their personal use. I certainly didn't have any trouble finding a copy of Hero even when Miramax was threatening all and sundry with lawsuits.
Im wondering what ever happend to Asian movie torrent sites, there arent any good ones anymore! It sucks!
Sucks for you. Now you might have to actually buy DVDs.
