There's something brewing in Ireland, apparently ... we linked to Ruairí Robinson's The Silent City recently and now the producer of that film has steered us to the website of his own short film, A Lonely Sky.
An Irish commercial director Nick Ryan put his film - a period piece revolving around test pilots in 1940's California - together with a shoestring budget and a lot of called in favors and the thing just looks fantastic. Production values are stellar and with a cast that includes Keir Dullea (2001, A Space Odyssey, The Good Shepherd), Paudge Behan (Veronica Guerin), and Padraic Delaney (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Legend) the acting is top notch as well. Just fantastic looking stuff and the website includes a stack of behind the scenes information that explains exactly how Ryan managed to pull this off for virtually no money.
I caught this on Cgtalk forum and I was just about to do a plug here. I'm amaze on how good the CG effects look and whats even more amazing is its done entirely by Nick Ryan himself....very impressive.
