Word from the American Film Market, where Kim Ki Duk's Time is currently screening, is that his latest project, title "Breath" is set to star Chen Chang (he of several wkw films as well as sexy outlaw suitor to Zhang Ziyi in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). This is to be one of Kim Ki Duk's 'minimal dialogue' love stories involving a convicted prisoner who "slowly falls for a woman who decorates his prison cell". Shooting is scheduled to start in early 2007.
The project is being touted as the first time either Kim Ki Duk has worked with a foreign star. This is perhaps not surprising considering that his films tend to sell and be distributed better in just about every market other than his home country. Also, this is the first time Chen Chang, whos is Taiwanese, has worked with a Korean director.

*UPDATED* Story corrected because I am officially a dumbass and in the context of the SD article I confused the two "Kims" without recalling this previous Twitch article. Thanks to the sharp(er) eyed commenters below.

Quick, somebody call Kim Jee-woon and let him know that Kim Ki-duk is ripping off his idea! :)
KKD has reportedly worked on the Chang Chen vehicle for more than 2 years. CC is asked to shed many pounds, and might do one of the most explicit sex scenes of his career thus far!
Screen didn't get confused.. Looks like someone skim read the article:
"Cineclick's AFM slate also includes new projects from Kim Jee-woon (A Tale Of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life) and Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf.
Kim is gearing up to direct The Good, The Bad And The Weird (working title), an "oriental western" set in Manchuria, while Makhmalbaf plans to direct Two Footed Horse, about a rich lame boy who hires a poor boy as a horse, from next summer."
Kim Ki Duk has worked with several french actors for WILD ANIMALS one of his first films, before he got famous.
IIRC, Kim had offered Masanobu Ando (who played the psychotic Kiriyama from Battle Royale, apparently a big KKD fan) the lead role in 3-IRON, but he had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts.
Ahh, right. I couldn't read the source article as I'm not a Screendaily subscriber, sorry about any confusion. :)
the movie is absolutely perfect.
