At the Cgtalk forum, director Ruairí Robinson from Ireland gave a heads up to a trailer for his short film, The Silent City. Not only did he directed it, he also wrote, edited and worked on almost all the visual effects. From the looks of the trailer, the visual effects doesn't look cheap but something straight out of a big budget Hollywood production. On top of that, Ruairi managed to get Cillian Murphy (played Scarecrow in Batman Begins) to act in his short. I'm very impress with the overall presentation. Here's a brief synopsis taken from the 51st Cork Film Festival site:

On the outskirts of a once great city, time is running out as a soldier calls for help for his dying comrades.

According to Ruairí's post, the whole short film won't be available online yet until it goes on a festival run first. Most likely it will be screened at Sundance. In the meantime, check out Fifty Percent Grey, an animated short film he directed back in 2002 which earned him an Oscar nomination.

Wow - that's very impressive. Not much to that trailer, then again, it's a short so I imagine they don't want to give away any more than is absolutely necessary. I'll be looking out for that.

Hi Cher06, according to Ruairí's post at cgtalk, it's in the submission process so info on when and where it be shown is not known at this time. Keep your eye on his site when the details come in…
