Konrad Niewolski's Polish thriller Palimpsest is scheduled to be screened at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, as part of the festival's Contemporary World Cinema programme. The movie had its world première at the RiverRun International Film Festival 2006 in North Carolina on March 17th. SPI International Polska Sp. z o.o. released it theatrically in Poland on August 18th. Distribution rights for it are being offered for sale by MonteCristo International LLC.

As was previously reported here on Twitch, the screenplay for Palimpsest was written by Igor Brejdygant (note: all names are written in ISO 8859-1 (Latin 1)). The movie stars Andrzej Chyra as Marek, Magdalena Cielecka as Hanna, Robert Gonera as Tomek, Adam Ferency as Malina, Henryk Talar as the commanding officer, Grzegorz Warchol as the neighbour, and Tomasz Sapryk as Maciek. The rest of its principal cast is as follows: Arkadiusz Bazak, Miroslaw Zbrojewicz, Jacek Barciak, Elzbieta Jarosik, Adam Kamien, Arkadiusz Jakubik, Mariusz Saniternik, Stanislaw Penksyk, Artur Holozubiec, Jacek Lenartowicz, Tomasz Zaród, Katarzyna Bargielowska, Miroslaw Moranski, Boguslaw Parchimowicz, Andrzej Musial, Marcin Jedrzejewski, and Bartosz Dziedzic.

Here's a description of Palimpsest from the website of production company Studio Filmowe Zebra: "Marek, the lead, a police inspector on the verge of psychic disintegration, is trying to solve a complex murder case. The story is told on two planes: The first is the sensationalist thread, the backbone of the whole movie. ¶ With the new developments unfolding, the second plane emerges, where the plot is played out against the backdrop of the lead's psychic sensations. ¶ The flexible merging of picture, sound, and music pulls the viewer into the deepest recesses of Marek's consciousness. The viewer is confronted with the question what is real and what, phantasmagoric; where is the boundary between reality and the way we imagine it; what gives a meaning to suffering; and what really matters most in life...."
