Ahhh... boy. Koreans are going crazy because they can't wait until July 27. The Japanese are waiting for September. And now you can add Canadians to the list, as it seems like Bong Joon-Ho's 괴물 (The Host) will be going to the Toronto International Film Festival.

Recent news reports about the film's American release surfaced, commenting that, at the earliest, the film might already release in US theaters by October. A PR rep from producers Cheongeorahm commented today that nothing is set in stone yet, but Magnolia told them they want to release the film in October or November (as we hinted before here on Twitch). They're still deciding whether a dubbed (!?) version or one with subtitles will be released, and -- here's the money shot -- "after checking North American viewers' reaction at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, we'll make a final decision on the date and release format (dubbed/subtitled)." Now, if the film does indeed release around October, there's a very good chance we might get a DVD before Christmas, which would be fabulous. Except when I have to go write that Bong Joon-Ho Special (you'll know soon enough, don't worry).

The film is releasing over 250 screens in Japan this September 2, and on July 27 in Korea. [Yahoo Korea]

It's also screening at London's FrightFest event in August!

Beside kuug-fu films..

English-dubbed movie isn't marketable in the United States at all....

For example, English-dubbed version of "Shaolin Soccer" got terrible response from US test screening. English-dubbed version of "High Tension" also become a box-office flop.

Whoopsie. TIFF won't be happy they leaked that.

^^ Especially since they had a press-release issued today with a few new TIFF films (BERNARD AND DORIS , THE PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY & COPYING BEETHOVEN).

or you can come see it on July 30 in New Zealand at the Auckland International Film Festival ... playing in the Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin fests as well. (last minute add, not on the site yet.)
