I could have used another lame 'monster' related double entendre, but this thing started so well we might be dealing with Bong Joon-Ho's latest film for quite a while. And you need to save ammunition, in that case.
Anyhow. Numbers for 괴물 (The Host)'s opening day are in, and they're quite... scary? Released over 620 screens nationwide (all time record), the film sold 449,500 tickets on its opening day. This is the best opening of all time in Korea, beating 태극기 휘날리며 (Taegukgi)'s 324,000 in 2004. If we add paid advanced screenings the night before (which would be 151,486), then the film is already past the 600,000 mark.
Producers Cheongeorahm even said theater chains are trying to get MORE prints, so the total screens will move to 650 by this Weekend. And people were scared this kind of films wouldn't do well. I don't know about the Clowns, but things like 실미도 (Silmido) and Taegukgi might start getting scared up there... [Yahoo Korea]
