Ergo Proxy Hitting R1 DVD November 21st!

Oh, very, very good news here.

I don't follow a ton of anime these days but every now and then a project gets rolling that just gets my juices flowing and Ergo Proxy has very clearly been one of those. Put together by a cadre of talented folk with credits from Cowboy Bebop, Witchhunter Robin and Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex on their collective resume I expected something spectacular and half way through the first season I have not been disappointed. Not one iota.

Yes, I understand that the trailers billed this as more of an action oriented show than it really is and some may find the more philosophical turns a bit off-putting but this sort of fusion of religion, philosophy, science fiction and post apocalyptic imagery just hits all the right buttons as far as I'm concerned and this is showing the same depth of plot and character, the same ability to resolve seemingly unconnected events into an over arching plan over time that made shows like Bebop and Witchhunter so very, very good. Calling it a Japanese pop-culture equivalent of Philip K. Dick isn't too far off. Yes, I'm a fan.

Anyway ... the North American DVD releases beign November 21st. Personally, I'll be holding off for the complete season box, which means I'll have to wait a while longer, but for those who want to start at the beginning on DVD, the wait isn't too much longer.

You can find trailer links here.

Did you just say "fusion of religion, philosophy, science fiction and post apocalyptic imagery"? I'm so there.

No, there is only one season and there most likely won't be more (which is usually a good thing). Japan is notorious for releasing anime series on DVD with very small episodes-per-disc ratios, typically a maximum of three episodes per disc. For example, the first disc of the Japanese release of Ergo Proxy only contains the first episode.

Ergo Proxy has a total of 23 episodes (unless there are DVD bonus episodes), the final episode airs on Japanese TV sometime in August.

First time hearing about this anime series (have been too busy keeping up with Blood+ and Angel Heart) but it sounds interesting. I'll check out Texhnolyze too since everyone here considers it the better series of this type.

Since the links listed in the Twitch article are now 404 here's the

thx Fabool for the info. Thx guys for mentioning the other two titles "Texhnolyze" & "Paranoia Agent" http://www.texhnolyzedvd.com http://www.paranoiaagent.com

Never watched Paranoia Agent, since I watched Perfect Blue (hated it) and Tokyo Godfathers (nothing special). ;)

Pseudo-science-psycho dialogue? Eh, it's far, far better than Ghost In The Shell at least. If Ergo Proxy puts you to sleep, I'd stay well away from Man Machine Interface. :P

he, i didn't find perfect blue that good, either.

millen.actress was OK, like an arthouse-anime and

tokyo godfathers was cliche and somehow reactionary.

but.....paranoia agent was the SH!T.

i watched all episodes back2back and man, what a ride.

now it's one of my favorites anime ever (tv or cinema).

about ghost in the shell.....cant remember the first movie (so it was boring) but recently watched the second part and this actually

struck me as an VALID and NOT POINTLESS discussion about the blurring human/machine distinction. yes, you can find that in ergo proxy, too, but somehow GITS 2 managed to convince me more...

so much about different tastes.

Great about the DVD release !

Well i am not sure it is some kind of a fusion but and of course

we can say that the idea is not a totally original one, however

the ending and the plot development are just great!

and what is better it is highly positive.

After all on my opinion the whole story is about people who are desperately trying to develop their souls in a certain way to become humans - i mean about the state of mind. One may say that there are a tons of such shows,- and HEll!! yes it is ! but there are only few which a really worthy and this is one of them - actually for such shows it doesnt' matter how much there were told before - on such question each story is unique and precious.

and this is indeed a refined and hmm.. well very kind and very human story.

I liked it very much!

Stay positive men!
