Yam Laranas Is A Great Big Tease.

by Todd Brown, June 29, 2006 5:59 AM

Okay ... this one take a bit of explaining. Since I first wrote my review of Yam Laranas' Sigaw I've been fortunate enough to strike up something of a relationship with the man and we've stayed in fairly regular contact about different things, some of which I've been able to share here, some of which I haven't. So, today, I swing by his site and find that very striking image on the left accompanied by a maddeningly vague teaser line. So I write him to see what's up and he pretends not to understand the question. Then he torments me more by simply sending the also very striking image on the right with no further explanation, and then clamming up entirely.

I'm in pain here.

But given that the first image was titled Lazarus and Laranas was just asked to be part of a trial group of film makers and cinematographers testing a new video phone my guess is that we're looking at the first images from a new religio-horror short film shot as part of that test. And seriously ... if he got picture like that off a phone then I'm throwing every piece of camera equipment I've ever owned off a bridge ...

More details as we get them.

I would've thought so, too, but last I heard the plan was to shoot the US remake of Sigaw first (which will start before the end of the year, it looks like) and then The Wanting, so unless he's shot some demo reel stuff this can't be from that ...

IF those stills are legitimately from that camera phone then filmmaking(especially documentary) is about to undergo another evolution.I can only imagine what the images from Nokia's 3rd generation model will look like. Todd, please keep us appraised.
