From the Variety article "Helmer punches 'Clock'": "Chilean helmer Jorge Olguin is directing the Mayhem Project's horror pic 'Clock Tower,' based on the Japanese vidgame franchise. ¶ Production is slated to begin this fall. ¶ Penned by Jake Wade Wall ('When a Stranger Calls'), pic concerns a young woman who receives a disturbing phone call from her estranged mother warning her not to come home. When she investigates, she uncovers a terrible supernatural truth from her past.... Olguin's directorial debut, 'Angel Nero,' was the biggest B.O. hit in Chile in 2000. His second feature, 'Sangre Eterna,' was also commercially and critically acclaimed and caught the attention of Guillermo del Toro, who's producing Olguin's upcoming pic 'The Call of the Sea.'"
From the website of production company The Mayhem Project LLC: "The CLOCK TOWER horror videogame franchise, from publisher Capcom, was launched in 1997. The third game in the series to arrive in the US was CLOCK TOWER 3. The story involves a teenage girl who receives news of her mother's strange disappearance and returns to the sprawling family home of her childhood to discover a shocking supernatural secret. The CLOCK TOWER series stands with RESIDENT EVIL, DEVIL MAY CRY and ONIMUSHA as one of Capcom's multi-million unit selling franchises. The acclaimed Japanese film director Kinji Fukasaku ('Battle Royale') oversaw the animated video game sequences for CLOCK TOWER 3. The Mayhem Project is developing a theatrical film version of this popular videogame."

I got a bad feelin' about this one. The fact that series did as well as it did has always surprised me. Clock Tower 3 was more chore than joy to slog through. Now if someone was going to make a movie based on Fatal Frame then I'd say hell yeah.
I think that Clock Tower would probably work better as a movie than a game. The game's not really fun but the story's pretty cool.
Joshua- I say "hell yeah" to a Fatal Frame movie as well, although some of the scares would be hard to pull off, just because it's the "camera view" that gets you all freaked out. I'd love to see Fatal Frame 2 as a movie for sure though.
A FATAL FRAME movie is already in the works at Dreamworks with John Rogers hired to write the script and possibly also direct.
Obviously, FATAL FRAME is superior, but I always thought the original TOWER had its moments, especially towards the beginning of the game...and Scissorman was a great character. Why they made TOWERs 2 & 3 without him is beyond me. I would be interested in this film (as I also thought SANGRE ETERNA was fun and underrated), but if Scissorman isn't in it...meh, I'll pass.
I don't know, I can't see Clock Tower 3 working as a film. While I thought the game was fun to me and a few select others, it has always felt spastic in the genre aspect of the story. The last third, the revelation of where your "powers" come from, has always seemed incredibly campy. Also, the overtop murders of CERTAIN characters, tension when hiding from various killers, the low current of psychosexuality in the game will be hard to translate from a game to an acceptable movie. Just to bitch some more... Jorge Olguin? 'Angel Negro' was horrid; it's still sitting in my collection with only 15 minutes watched.
Clock Tower 3 is actually the fourth in the series. The first came out on the SNES in 1995, and is still the scariest through 16 bit graphics. It would have also been the best choice for a movie adaptation, in my opinion.
erm, i'm all for a fatal frame movie.the games were cool except the 1st one where could hardly tell weather they were talking or just moving their mouths....and when there were no subtitles...it was a bit hard to hear what they had to say.
i cant wait till they make the clock tower movie, but i wish it was based on the 2nd game (clock tower 2 struggle within.) i like that one better than the 3rd, because i like the main character ,alyssa, having a split personality disorder.like she has her normal personality ,a sweet innocent girl and then theres the 2nd personality named mr.bates he's a cold blooded killer that sounds like "scream" anyway , i hope they make the clock tower movie is good. i heard that the director is the same director who made "when a stranger calls" i liked that movie so ill probably like clock tower also.

This movie will more than likely be horrible like most video game movies. It would have had a fair shot if scissorman was in it but of course they didnt go that route. I heard it will be like clock tower 3 and let's face it, ct3 was probably one of the worst games ever created. The story sucked, the killers sucked, and it just wasn't scary at all. It makes me laugh when capcom claims to be the king of survival horror. That's really saying alot about the genre. But back to the point, half of the reason why the snes and ps1 clock towers were so good is because scissorman is scary as hell. He was a great villian, and imo, if you take him out of clock tower, it just isn't clock tower. I hate being the negative guy on a forum, but i've been waiting for this movie since i first bought the game on ps1, and to hear that he's not even going to be in it just infuriates me.
