This is just plain excellent news ...
Variety has broken word that Icelandic director Dagur Kari will continue his trend of every film being in a different language - Noi in Icelandic, Dark Horse in Danish - with his next one, The Good Heart, being an English language release. Already slated to star are Ryan Gosling and Tom Waits.
Frankly I don't care much wither way for Gosling but Waits is an entirely different story. I just plain love this man's work both as a musician and an actor. He seldom plays major roles but even in small bits Waits can absolutely steal a film and he'll be a very, very good fit for Kari's aesthetic, I think. In The Good Heart he will have a lead role as a bartender recovering from his fifth heart attack who trains Gosling's drifter character to take over the bar after his death.
Waits as a ramshackle bar man? Not real hard to picture that ...

Well said Todd, Tom Waits is the greatest! I think I own just about everything there is to own by the guy.. and I agree, he is damn good on-screen too!
Let's hope Kari puts some Waits on the soundtrack too..
