The Spierig Brothers are known amoung fans of the comedy/horror/splatter sub-genre for their 2003 film Undead. While the film left a number of us around here a bit cold (it is more than just a tad derivative of other entries in the genre), it was impressive what the Brothers did with under $1M, Adobe Premiere and a few Pentium IIIs. Their next film is being developed with Canada's Lionsgate (who is quite friendly with the low-budget horror folks) and New Zealand's Weta is doing the splatter and creature effects. If they can get the script polished far greater than Undead was, then this could be a fantastic match of talent.
"The future-set story of a world overrun by vampires where humans are being harvested for blood. As blood supplies dwindle, two vampire brothers - one a fervent human hunter and the other a sympathetic scientist with ties to the human cause - face off in a struggle to determine the fate of mankind."
I'm hoping they don't go the Blade vs. The Matrix route with this though. "Daybreakers" releases in North America in 2007.

That picture reminds me of Darkwatch (Video Game).
i loved Undead...saw it at bnat5. can't wait to see what these guys do next!
The thing that ruined Undead for me was its incredibly irritating characters - That screaming aussy cop in particular got my back up something serious. Pity, as it certainly had potential, and a lot of nice touches.
