Albert Pyun's Single Shot Sci-Fi Film "Infection" Picked Up By Lion's Gate

Ever wonder what happened to the guy that made Cyborg? While Jean-Claude Van Damme went on to make a string of films many people wish they'd never seen - having seen most of them and paid theater admission to do so I feel I'm within my rights saying that - director Albert Pyun went on to make a whole lot of films that people actually did never see. But there's been a fair bit of buzz circling around his latest effort, Infection, for a good while now, and Pyun has just written in to say that Lions Gate has just bought it.

A bit of an oddity, Infection is a science fiction film about a 'biological event', a killer plague brought to earth on a meteor, the completely destroys the small town of Lawton. That bit's not so unusual, what is is that Pyun made the film in a single 72 minute shot. That's been done a bit in art house circles recently, but to my knowledge this is a first for a genre picture ...

Wow, so this jerk scams Guam and makes another shitty movie? That's news alright!

I remember Pyun did DANGEROUSLY CLOSE back in his days at The Cannon Group. I haven't seen it since the 80's but I remember it not sucking. There might be other Pyun movies that don't suck, but I haven't seen any of them. Of course, he also made URBAN MENACE, which definitely sucked. But it its own way, that's a good thing too - it made for one of the most entertaining commentary tracks I've ever heard. Curious to see what he does with a one-shot genre flick. I don't expect much, but stranger things have happened. If it's bad, at least it'll probably be extremely bad... entertainingly extremely bad. And if it's good - it's not completely unprecedented. Just very unlikely.

I'm fascinated by that, I don't care how good or bad it is, I want to see it and find out if it is one take. That would take some bit of work to carry out for a single 72 minute shot!

Mind you, could be like Snake Eyes? It was the longest shot...until we heard about the cut!

"Based on a true story" it says.

Eh? I don't remember any reports of a town being destroyed by a plague from a meteor.

Oh man I love Albert Pyun! I saw a shit load of films by him years ago and then he sort of disapered right after Ticker with Steven Seagal.

Trivia time. Originaly he was supposed to direct the sequel to Masters of the Universe but Canon backed out so he made Cyborg instead, which is sometimes called Masters of the Universe 2 on TV.

Albert Pyun is a thief and a scam artist. Ask anyone on Guam about MAX HAVOC. Pyun's a sack of shit.
