This Is Just Baffling. China Issues a Blanket Ban on All Mixed Animation / Live Action Projects.

by Todd Brown, February 22, 2006 7:11 PM

What on earth are they thinking? Variety has just broken news that China has just issued an all out ban on any film or TV productions that blend live action with animation. Why? Because "CGI and 2-D characters alongside human actors jeopardize "the broadcast order of homemade animation and mislead their development," according to a report from the state-run Xinhua News Agency." Yes, blending CG with human actors is apparently upsetting the basic order of things. Craziest thing about it is this isn't the first time China has banned things on this sort of basis ... that same Variety article points out that the country once banned Babe because "animals can't talk and some viewers would be confused."

Completely and utterly bizarre, this is.

Check the full article here. Thanks to 'Alabama Black Snake' for pointing it out ...

China so is uptight. They also don't allow supernatural elements or any criminals succeeding in films.

Does anyone else think that China is always taking one great leap forward but two great leaps back?

China will rule the world in 20-25 years. Should be fun. This news certainly made me ROFL.

I'm dumbfounded.....like Beavis & Butthead while watching an episode of Twin Peaks.

good for them! i find it difficult to watch so many movies all the time because they just don't make sense. thank you, china, for being almost as bizarre as japan and korea.

How amusing! This reminds me of that scene in Monty Python where one of the knights is tricked into entering a castle full of horny nuns and is "rescued" against his will by Lancelot.

Galahad: "Look, let me face the peril!"
Lancelot: "No, no, it's much too perilous!"

The Chinese people will still be able to see pirated copies of these films. This ban will just prevent the original creators of the movies from making any profits in China.

sooo insane... what's really crazy is that this doesn't come from any sort of religious influence.. china is officially athiest?? this is just good ol' fashion retardedness.
