Matt Groening Wants Walliams & Lucas (Little Britain) and Catherine Tate to Follow Ricky Gervais

Matt Groening's been speaking about how happy he is with Ricky Gervais' episode of The Simpsons, managing to match the tone of the show as it has historically been and as it currently is, and fitting his own brand of uncomfortable humor within it. Now Mr.Groening's mentioned he wants Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams and Catherine Tate {Twitch Post} to follow in his footsteps. Fine, Lucas & Walliams are obvious choices, no comedy more watched by the British public right now, and Catherine Tate is the newly crowned Queen of British Comedy : taking over from the increasingly unfunny and desperately lazy comedy of French & Saunders in her recent meteoric rise to fame.

In the past, it has been easy to see The Simpsons as being as responsible as other American Comedies for odd sterotypes of British people, as though we're all either like Oliver Twist or ready to compete in a modern 'Upper Class Twit of the Year' competition - it's not as though British Comedy doesn't do something similar to Americans. I personally found it odd, but satisfying, that Mr.Groening openly stated a love of British Comedy when he appeared at the British Comedy Awards 2004. Hopefully he can see beyond the obvious, and notes also there's great talent like Mark Benton, Rob Brydon, Simon Day, and Robert Webb out there too... [Source : Chortle].
