Well now, this is surprising news.

The Hollywood Reporter broke news this morning that the Weinstein Company will no longer be releasing Chen Kaige's The Promise. They say it was a mutual decision - and an amicable one - spurred on largely by the fact that the film's producers wanted a broader scaled release for the film than the Weinstein's were willing to give it. The producers are now looking for a new distribution partner for the stack of territories the Weinstein's had rights to. They have dropped the new title imposed on the film by Bob and Harv in favor of the original title but word is they will be screening the dramatically cut version prepared for the Weinstein Co in all regions other than Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, mainland China and Japan. Word is the Academy qualifying run scheduled to start tomorrow in LA is still a go. Check that link above for all the details.

Thanks to everyone who sent in the story link this morning.
