Not too long ago statues of Bruce Lee were erected in Bosnia and Hong Kong [Twitch report here]. Now, word is getting around that Seattle also wishes to erect a statue in honor of the martial arts legend. Lee lived in Seattle from 1959 to 1965.

The campaigners hope to collect $25,000 in donations by the end of 2006, which would afford a life-size bare-torso bronze figure of the 5-foot-7 Lee in a prominent Jeet Kune Do pose to represent the nonclassical martial art he developed and taught in Seattle. “I would like a statue that represents the man,” LeFevre [co-director Seattle Museum of Mysteries], who is part-Japanese American, said. “That’s why I want it life-size. … I want future generations to recognize that Bruce Lee was a living, breathing person, that he was a student here, to recognize that he started out here in Seattle.” A call for design entries has been issued by the Museum of the Mysteries. The top three designs will be chosen by the museum board and be posted on the Internet for a public vote. All entries must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2006.

When Bruce died, I was in my favourite bookstore in my hometown, Aldergrove, BC, 27 miles east of Vancouver.

I read his Jeet Kun Do book which his wife Linda put out.

What I do regret is Master Lee being influenced by Ven Master Chin Kung.

Given that jeet kun do is about adaptibility, I felt that Bruce needed the wise advice of Buddhist master to balance out the neo-Confucian and Taoist influences of his philosophy.

No doubt Bruce would be bored by Tai Chi, but I can imagine his ghost slowly performing jeet kun do moves throughout his old haunts in Seattle!

I was deeply hurt when i heard that Bruce Lee died.

I really really loved him. He was my hero.

watching him as a child was a joy to me. He was a very unique fighter which i admire very much.

Their is no other one like him.

I want him to know that i will always remember him.
