David Soul as Jerry Springer : looks just like him from the distance of the stalls in the West End of London, or obscured by some strange object sat on top of some womans head. In all honesty, I've seen sections of it, and its clear from this and the popularity of it that David Soul does a stunning job. It's also a rarity to see a West End show filmed for TV, and even then its not this particular kind of show but something a little more Operatic.

No, haven't seen it all, but it caused a huge messy fuss earlier in the year. Why? Because religious groups did that classic 'object before you know anything about it' technique as they flooded the BBC with almost 50 thousand complaints in an attempt to stop it being shown. It's absolutely littered with profanity and strange behaviour, and comes from the mind of Stewart Lee, part of Lee & Herring who were hugely popular alternative comedians here in the UK during the 90s.

I am reminded of the show as there's a piece about it all running at the moment on the BBCs site, also because there's the reimmerging issue of the potential scrapping of the BBCs license fee (its' charter was renewed recently, but its still under threat) and because in November the show is also released here on DVD.

BBC online new piece about complaints for 'Jerry Springer : The Opera', plus older pieces'Legal Threat', 'BBC Rejects Complaints' and 'Christian Group Takes Action'. Writer Stewart Lee at IMDB.
