Does this surprise anyone? Canada's bastard son James Cameron has put his Battle Angel Alita project on hold for now, apparently stuck in development limbo, and is focusing his efforts on another script titled Project 880. Battle Angel was set to start filming in December.
According to the report at BBC Movies, the film will "be shot in 3D with an advanced version of the motion-capture technology used in The Polar Express" in addition to using new Hi-Definition cameras [Hollywood Reporter]. There is no word on what the plot of the film is about as Lightstorm Entertainment is keeping mum on it.
Just one thing about that Polar Express motion capture thingy. Please do something about the eyes! Those kids creeped me out, man.

And I was looking forward to that too, being a fan of the graphic novels. Along with the Evangelion project getting nowhere, it looks like we're all out of live action adaptions of anime. At least from Hollywood.
I know some will disagree.. but I think that this is good news. Just the thought of Hollywood re-creating anime in live action form makes me cringe.
well i was really looking forward to this movie...i love the graphic novels, and i was a big fan of James Cameron's Dark Angel series...... i was so excited for this movie!!! :'{
well i hope he gets his rear in gear soon and starts filming this movie some time soon!!!
I'm actually kind of glad he put it on hold. Think about it. If Cameron got a hold of Alita... What would she become?
He'd probably put Jessica Alba in the role as our favorite ocotopus lipped heroine, who I beleive wouldn't have the physical capacity to pull off a martial arts heavy role like Alita.
Or he'd go with the obvious choice... Angelina Jolie, who would turn our favorite Japanese cyborg/human into a cockney, british spewing angnst woman, who doesn't do much of anything except spout random cryptic remarks...
(Nothing against Angelina, but unless Cameron finds a great Japanese woman to play Alita, I don't think I'll see it, regardless of my feelings towards the series... as much as I love it so.)
i'm really looking forward to this movie...i'm a big fan of James Cameron's Dark Angel series...I loved that show so much....who am i kiding i still do...anyway he better starts filming this movie some time soon!!!I just can't whait.
