Sin City DVD Details

Logboy spotted some Sin City DVD details over at the Digital Bits and the news is good. Sort of.

The film is slated for a DVD release August 16th, but the initial release is going to be bare bones, with a second special edition release coming later in the year, or possibly as late as 2006. This dual release trend is getting frustrating ... I have no problems with doing a basic release and a second loaded up, more expensive release for the hardcore fans, but release them AT THE SAME TIME. Or at least close to it. Doing it this way is just a blatant attempt to get people to double dip ...

That really upsets me, actually, because I wasn't expecting this to happen in this instance. Rodriguez was talking up how great the DVD's going to be, and then they go and do this? I shall weep now.

i hate dvd 'double dips'. i do however like that term applied to dvds. remember kids, do your research thouroughly before purchasing any dvd. if the release is criterion however (hint hint life aquatic) you can relax cause you're getting the best there is on the first 'dip'.

can't wait to see the extras on sin city. honestly i'd rather just get the extras than the film. i loved the books loved the movie but i'm all about techy behind the scenes shit.

depends what you call "best"... there are still people who double dip or even single dip for reasons other than the quality of the dvd or the film. ahem... theyre the thing that encourages this "oh look, we can make more money from not much of any true value" thinking we get from companies...

I've been trying to save some $$ by waiting for the DVD as opposed to seeing it in the theater again with my wife, who want to see it (despite that it's one of the biggest "guy movies" ever made). But I can't very well waste more $$ double dipping. Gotta have the deluxe version! And I hate renting DVDs because they're always scratched. Grrr.
