Must go over to play.com a traul through the upcoming DVD lists, as even though it will take hours, there must be some more gems stuck in there. First spot this morning : right at the top of the upcoming Anime releases is 'Steamboy'. After the disappointment of finding the French R2 release, initially said to contain English Subtitles, i feel a little better knowing that this R2 UK disc is likely to be the first Subbed disc anywhere - that we know of at this point anyway.
There seems to be two different editions : a bog-standard, and a special edition (the one labelled at the Director Cut of the film). So, this goes on my preorder list, and is unlikely to be surpassed by a fast USA R1 release.

iv always been a fan of Akira, its what got me into manga and anime in general. i hope that this movie is ful of all of the crazy plot tricks and great animation as Akira-

I've already seen it Triflic and I really liked it ... different strokes ...
Logboy: You're right...hype is the wrong word...my point was that there have been a fair number of posts for Steamboy, and if you consider quantity of posts as a measure of 'major' release...Not an exact science to be sure, but think of the films which get a large number of postings over the past 8-9 months: Kung-Fu Hustle, Izo, Howl's Moving Castle, 3-Iron, House of Flying Daggers, Casshern, GITS-Innocence, 2046 and of course, Steamboy. Speaking for myself only, I would say I was stoked about all of these releases, as are probably many of the twitch readers...
Geez, this post sounds a bit defensive...it isn't meant to be (I'm not trying to sound like a jerk...really...). Just throwing in my $0.02 on Steamboy, and for those out there with high expectations, I would advise lowering them considerably.
How come the DVD is going to be released first in the UK? Any info about US release date?
first in the UK... ? its not about one country or the other first for the most part, but about the control or schedule of each individual market. slight variations to that theory : no HK disc before anywhere else cos theyre so cheap compare to other editions and everyone would spot it...
