Now that the film is releasing throughout Canada and the US it seems like a good time to link back to some of our Machinist reviews ... we're fairly split on the film around here. Having seen it a second time I hold with my original, fairly middling, opinion from the Toronto Film Festival. Canfield, however, has already seen the thing at least six times and adores it. Check out my review here, Canfield's here, and Canfield's interview with director Brad Anderson here.

The movie would be rather impressive if the script had been written earlier than 1999. Howe'er, since it was written the same year that Fight Club came out, I really can't give it high marks. I love the allusions to Hitchcock, I love the direction, acting, etc. But that script is...I dunno, I thought the dialogue was rather stinted.
