Well, here's an unexpected spin off of the success of Mel Gibson's The Passion ... The FX Network, best known for edgy fare such as Nip/Tuck and The Shield, has just hired George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh's Section Eight production house to bring along a ten hour, ten installment miniseries based on the ten commandments. Each entry will be helmed by a different director, who will also pen the script, with Clooney and Soderbergh sitting in the director's chair for one each.
Though they never come right out and mention Kieslowski's Dacalogue they had to have had it in mind when doing this ... like Kieslowski's masterpiece this new project will be set in contemporary society with each installment exploring the implications of each of the ten commandments. Basically we're going to get ten short films, one each about lying, lust, murder, theft, etc. Done wrong this could be horribly dull and pedantic, done well it should make for some riveting stuff. Given FX's track record, not to mention the presence of Soderbergh and Clooney I'm betting on the latter ...

Wow... first they tackle Tarkovsky, and now Kieslowski. They're certainly going after the masters. I wonder which cinematic giant will get the next makeover? Kurosawa? Bresson? Eisenstein? Welles?
