Raimi, Campbell and Tapert Producing Remake of Evil Dead!

Now this is some unexpected news ... According to Variety Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert will be producing a remake of The Evil Dead through Raimi's Ghost House label. Raimi will not direct the film himself and is current leading a search team for a director to "reinvent the franchise before a script is written."

I'm more than a little surprised to see them revisiting this old material and I can only think of one really solid reason to do it: showing investors the series can turn a solid profit to generate funding for the long-rumored Evil Dead 4. Here's hoping ...

if bruce campbell is not ash, miles will be seriously pissed!

how could they even concieve of making an evil dead film without bruce campbell in the lead?

Oh, it's happening, and all the original people are on board as producers. They all have such a heavy investment in these films that I really can't see them doing anything with it unless they were very confident it would turn out well ...

Really? Ooh...akward mo.
If that's the case then I don't really see that happen. I don't see Park doing a crazed horror splatter fest but then again he might be real good at it.

Dark Horizons is floating the possibility of Justin Theroux as Ash ... I kind of like that, actually. Theroux's a really good actor who could play it straight or for comedy. Story's here.

Holy hell, that's an inspired choice! He definitely has a young Bruce Campbell look to him, and he can certainly play it cool. Just look at him in Charlie's Angels 2. He was the best part of the film (well, him and Crispin Glover). I'm starting to warm up to this idea, but there had better be cameos by BC and Ted Raimi, and I still wish Sam Raimi would direct/write it. I also wish it wasn't a remake. Evil Dead 2 was essentially a remake of ED1, for crying out loud. They need to explore the story from a different angle.

Sick of sequels and remakes spoiling the original film in the first place. I'll stick with my three DVDs thank-you very much.

Shame on you Mr. Raimi.

/All will be forgiven though if this is just a fund-raiser for ED4.

WWWWHHHHYYYYYY!!?? Oh, yeah, because you've all sold your souls....

I've just about had it up to here with Hollywood lately. I say we go burn it down and start fresh. They've obviously de-evolved.
