Whee! Just got home from an insanely frustrating shopping trip - I loathe shopping - to find a batch of screener DVDs from Palm Pictures awaiting my return. At the top of the stack was Last Life in the Universe - one of my very favorite films - with a complete spec sheet. Here's what we'll be getting:

Anamorphic Widescreen
5.1 Surround Sound
Cast and Crew Interviews
Behind the Scenes Footage
A Collection of Artwork From Cinematographer Christopher Doyle

AND

A Christopher Doyle Commentary Track!

Now, not only is Doyle one of the very best cinematographers in the world, he's also one mighty fine interview and I can't wait to hear what he's got to say about this ... he's a funny, sarcastic, bitingly intelligent man and I'm betting he's got a story or two to tell about Tadanobu Asano, Takashi Miike and Riki Takeuchi ...

So, this is the region 1? A Christopher Doyle commentary track sounds like a brilliant feature indeed. However the Artificial Eye region 2 release also seems to have some good extra features, like a 40 minute interview with the director. I'll just wait for a comparison of the two DVDs.

This one will include interviews as well, but I don't know if they'll be the same ones as the Artificial Eye release ...

This movie has the best ambient soundtrack I've ever heard. Well worth it to buy (I think eThaiCD has it), but it's somewhat strange how it only has 4 tracks, 3 of which are about 15-18 minutes long each and contain multiple instrumentals.

I bought the Thai DVD in Thailand and it seems to have pretty much the same extras the AE edition has - except the AE has English subs. Hearing that there's a Region 1 - and with the Doyle commentary - coming out is a real surprise. I only hope that the picture quality is better than the Thai, which is good, but a little soft. Certainly nothing to write home about. Also keep waiting for something other than the Thai DVD of "Blissfully Yours" to come out. The Thai DVD of that film cuts the two "racy" scenes (the first of which makes the second half of an already odd movie completely baffling by its exclusion).

I have been looking for the soundtrack to this movie to buy it. Does anyone know where I can get it? Please help crazybee if you can. This is a excellent movie.
