Twitch O Meter

Yoshiyuki Morishita is ready for his extreme close-up, Mr. deMille!

And now for a Twitch-O-Meter which is slightly different.

Watching a Japanese film at my leisure last week, I was suddenly disturbed by the appearance of a supporting character which I've seen pop up all over the place. It's a skinny little guy with incredibly bad teeth, and he is always used for comic effect. Or so I thought...

Looking him up in IMDB I discovered his name is Yoshiyuki Morishita and his filmography is astounding. I apparently have seen scores and scores of films with him in it! Well, in some of those he probably wasn't using his trademark moronic "graveyard" grin otherwise I'd have remembered him even better.

So once again I'm going to use a turn in the Twitch-O-Meter to do a gallery of 5 close-ups of one of my ehm... most ubiquitous thespians. Guess which 5 movies they're from.
No competition, no prizes, just for fun, try to see how far you get without using IMDB.
And I'll post the answers on Tuesday (earlier if someone has all 5 of them right).

Good luck!

Wowzers mrhibbert, that's even faster than usual.

1, 2, 4 and 5 are correct, and you're DAMN close with no. 3 !!!

user-pic

Damn, it was the old monitors in the background that made me think it. The guy is hilarious in Survive Style 5+ (the only one out of the list I actually remember him being in).

I'll let someone else guess 3, I think I was a little too eager.

You knlw, people are always making jokes about the British having bad teeth.

But I tell you, the British don't have shit on the Japanese. I'd say about 7 our of 10 people there have fucked-up grills.

user-pic

Wow. An expert at cultural norms and economies and health care systems.

You also need to travel more. I've seen far worse "fucked up grills" in other countries, most of which are considered "third world".

I hadn't realized just how often I'd seen this guy until I read
this piece. He's like the Renji Ishibashi of bit part players.
I think no.3 is Ju-on (first cinema version).

user-pic

Phil is right!
Movie no. 3 is the first original cinema outing of "Ju-on" ("The Grudge").

And yes, Yoshiyuki Morishita has been almost everywhere it seems, I could almost do ANOTHER article on him.

Well done, people. Within half a day all were guessed, astoundingly quick as usual (whenever Asian actors are featured, I might add...).

Anyone remember him in WILD ZERO?!

user-pic

Damn straight. I only really remember him for that and Survive Style 5+, both films he is just amazing.

user-pic

I remember him from:
Survive Style 5+
turtles swim faster than expected

Party 7! Awesome role.

But yeah, typically one of those actor where you go "there hé is again" and then forget what movies he's played in.

He's got balls though. Almost every movie he's in makes fun of his posture or face. Guess he must have thick skin.

user-pic

Thought he was in "Funky Forest" as well - last pic looked a little like that - probably getting him mixed up with someone else.

user-pic

You've probably spotted right though: he is in both "The Taste of Tea" and "The Funky Forest" as well. He's everywhere!

user-pic

Watched "Turtles Are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers" last night
and he turns up in the role of a gay owner of a pastry shop.
He's surprisingly good at keeping those teeth hidden from
view when he needs to.

user-pic

True, he doesn't show them in "Ichi the Killer" and "Ju-on" either.
Must be a built-in defense mechanism...
