Sigourney Weaver is ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille!

by Kurt Halfyard, August 4, 2009 2:59 PM

"I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

The lady who wrote the book on re-inventing the action star, Sigourney Weaver will always be remembered for her chameleon character in the Alien movies. Across the four entries of that series she went from blue-collar space-trucker, to gun-toting soldier, to biblical martyr to comic-book superhero. A statuesque woman who may not have gotten too many of the usual leading lady roles for the simple fact that she would be taller than most of her co-stars, Weaver has mainly done science fiction films and comedies (often both at the same time), yet occasionally does a straight-up drama and even a period costume piece. But her knack for comedic timing and a willingness to alternate between goofy, sexy and bitchy makes her an unusual Hollywood A-List star. She has worked with a host of major international directors from Roman Polanski to Michel Gondry, from Michael Apted to Mike Nichols, from Peter Weir to M. Night Shyamalan and of course the Alien franchise sports an all-star director line-up. Ms. Weaver will appearing in some capacity in the upcoming Avatar.

How well do you know the faces of Sigourney Weaver? This is not a competition, there are no prizes, bragging rights in the comment section. Friends don't let friends use the IMDB as a crutch.

The answers will be posted just before this post drops off the main page, that is, if all you smart folks out there do not get them first! No extra points for the image to the left however, if you are visiting on a regular basis and do not recognize that still, well, you might want to correct that as soon a possible.

Good luck!

The correct answers are (as Kafkasmoney states above):

1- Alien3
2- The Ice Storm
3- Ghostbusters
4- Galaxy Quest
5- Death and the Maiden

I went with that particular shot from Alien3 because the shaved head is the more iconic shot. The dead giveaway was the bloodshot eye sustained in the crash of the Sulaco-pod at the beginning of the film. The funeral/rebirth scene in Alien3 is also the best sequence in the film, a chapter which does not get is due, and is on par with the first two Alien films.

Oooohh-slick move with that first pic. I figured either that was going to nail me, or that the Ghostbusters shot mught actually be Ghostbusters II.Good quiz. Thanks.
