LOOPER Director Rian Johnson To Write And Direct STAR WARS EPISODE VIII

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
Well, now, here's a little something for Star Wars fans to be excited about: With Episode VII still underway and future talk thus far largely centering on the one off spin off projects, word has broken that Disney and LucasFilm have already landed a writer-director for Episode VIII. And that task falls to Looper helmer Rian Johnson. And to this I say hot damn, sir. The hottest of damns.

Johnson is precisely the right sort of fanboy to hand this sort of project to. One who has earned his geek credentials wholeheartedly while not being at all beholden to them. He's a fiercely talented writer with the ability to balance out character and plot and always vests his characters with enough quirk and personality to keep them feeling meaty and real. And Looper proved he can handle VFX just fine, too.

REEL, COOL and LOW is how this number 8 is gonna be!
[From what I hear] the FLAMETHROWER scene is something for you dweebs to look forward to!

lucas' prequel trilogy is going to look worse and worse with every new movie that gets made with these kind of directors signing up. finally star wars will be cool again.

Johnson is one of my favorite directors working today...his three films are so different from each other in genre and intent, and yet all three are his own voice. Gonna be really interesting to see what he does with this....

HO--LEE--FUCK--ING...SHIT! Um, yes please. Best news I've heard all week. Johnson showed us a long time ago that he had boatload of talent. Looper tells me he's definitely Star Wars-ready. The funny thing is I wanted this to happen, but I never in a million years would have thought it would. Awesome news.

Don't forget all of Johnson's great Breaking Bad episodes, some of the more 'off-the-wall' episodes of that show. THIS IS A GREAT CHOICE.
