Watch The Teaser For Kitamura's Live Action LUPIN III

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
It was back on Tuesday that we ran the first footage from Kitamura Ryuhei's upcoming live action adaptation of popular manga and anime series Lupin III in the form of a teaser aired on Japanese television. The footage itself looked great but was partially obscured by graphics laid on by the local broadcaster along with commentator chatter over top of the audio, but if you want to take a look at the teaser free and clear of the clutter, now's your chance. We've got it down below.

Shun Oguri, Asano Tadanobu, Ayano Go, Tamayama Tetsuji and Kuroki Meisa star.

Too many quick cuts to form any opinion. I hope this will be a return to form for Kitamura.

  • I know this is going to sound like an enormously loaded question (which it's honestly not intended as) but what would you consider to be peak form for Kitamura? He's been such a divisive filmmaker over his career that I'm always curious to hear people's take on him ...

Versus ruined action movies for me, for years. He never really topped that, although I am a huge fan. I will rewatch Godzilla: Final Wars, a million times over, before I ever clap eyes on that Gareth Edwards bollocks, again.

I'd go with Azumi and LoveDeath. I also think he directed the hell out of Jeff Buhler's awful script for Midnight Meat Train. Kitamura is a great visual stylist. If he's paired with the right script and an appropriate budget he could eventually make a masterpiece.

I would like to see him direct one of the Star Wars movies..

    Peak form? Aragami.

I'll have to rewatch that one. Haven't seen it since whenever the US DVD came out.
