Michael Bay Attempts The Full-Nolan With First TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Trailer

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
Good idea? Bad idea? Or just plain weird idea? I'm not sure which of those the idea of pushing the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie in The Dark Knight mold is but that's very much what producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman appear to have done with it, based upon this first trailer. The humor survives, thankfully, but just take a look at Leonardo up there. I have no illusions about this movie having been made to scratch the TMNT nostalgia itch of a forty year old guy such as myself but given that The Boy was home from school for lunch when I came across it I had the chance to try it out cold on the actual target market and his verdict: Also a bit perplexed.

But, regardless, get your first look at Megan Fox, William Fichtner and a whole lot of computer pixels in action below and weight in with your thoughts.

I will watch this. I will hate this. I will wait for the Fox ass shots, the slightly fascist political undertones, a necessary exposition of superior US navy/army combat readiness and rampant product placement (perhaps iphones). Then I'll be glad I only downloaded it and feel mildly satisfied that some douchebag bluray collector went out and paid for this. That's how I roll with Bay movies, anyway.

Looks like typical Michael Bay. I just happen to abhor his movies.

This actually looks pretty damn good.

But of course, I was never really into TMNT growing up (and I'm 26 years old). I would watch the cartoons occasionally. But I never watched any of the live action TV shows & movies, nor the TMNT animated movie they did some time ago.

Ok then, I won't be watching this. Also, the 1990 film holds up pretty well and the turtle suits look awesome.

Yesssss......I don't care what anyone says or thinks.......this looks like big, stupid, fun. I don't like Bay, except for "The Rock" (and I'm very interested in checking out "Pain and Gain"), but.........this looks fun. Turtles has always been big, stupid, fun.....if you actually go back and watch the first movie.......it is about as dumbed down as you can possibly get.....like "Garbage Pail Kids" dumb. I love the new look.

i m not into comic book adaptations (i like only Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Transformers 1 and Tim Burton's 2 Batman movies), but i m really excited for this

Well to be fair the original source material of the comic book was quite dark in the comic books they actually killed their opponents. It was also a piss take of the Daredevil Marvel universe, Daredevil's sensei is named Stick the Turtles Splinter etc.

I pretty much checked out back when Bay and Liebesman were announced. However, being the Turtles fan I am (I was?), still curious to see what they would be doing. Going dark in that Nolan-sense is actually more surprising because the original comics were, first and foremost dark, and weird. The 1990 movie was also considered quite dark when contrasted with the cartoon of the time, so I'm actually surprised that this isn't more goofy.

At any rate, it is a very brief look; a jumbled, noisy bit of lazy advertising, figuring it can get our attention on pure gravitas alone. It can't, obviously. It is just confusing us. But that confusion is going to make people talk.

I actually think the look of the turtles themselves is what will bring bring people in or drive them away, and they just look like... The Hulk, actually. Or an orc, or Shrek. Ugh.

Oh my. They have noses too.

Well, I wasn't too warm on this reboot of TMNT, but after seeing this trailer --- let's just say, I'm not gonna bother.
