Greatness. STAGE FRIGHT Trailer Mixes Music, Mirth, And Bloody Madness

Peter Martin, Managing Editor

Nothing in life is guaranteed, but from the first trailer for Jerome Sable's Stage Fright, I am willing to predict that he has absolutely nailed a great horror-comedy musical.

Sable made the short The Legend of Beaver Dam several years ago, a film that absolutely floored me because it captured the spooky spirit of a campfire tale and then infused it with a very funny musical twist. Official synopsis-wise, Stage Fright follows up in that same spirit:

Starry-eyed teenager Camilla Swanson wants to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a Broadway diva, but she's stuck working in the kitchen of a snobby performing arts camp. Determined to change her destiny, she sneaks in to audition for the summer showcase and lands a lead role in the play, but just as rehearsals begin, blood starts to spill, and Camilla soon finds herself terrified by the horror of musical theatre.

Allie MacDonald, Douglas Smith, Brandon Uranowitz, Minnie Driver, and Meat Loaf star; Sable wrote and directed.

Stage Fright will have its world premiere at the rapidly-approaching SXSW, and I dearly hope that it delivers on what it has promised. The film will be available via various Video On Demand platforms on April 3, ahead of a limited theatrical engagement on May 9. The first trailer is great; a wicked mix of hilarious and horrifying and very, very bloody. Watch it for yourself below.

(Full disclosure: XYZ Films, in which Twitch's founder and editor Todd Brown is a partner, had something to do with this movie, but I am acting entirely on my own accord in posting this trailer.)
