Watch The New, Blood Soaked Japanese Trailer For The Mo Brothers' KILLERS

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
Is there a trailer rating higher than red-band? Because if there is, it seems entirely likely that's what this new Japanese theatrical trailer for Killers - the sophomore feature by The Mo Brothers - would earn.

A dark and intense thriller about a pair of men drawn inexorably to violence who discover one another online - one in Tokyo, the other in Jakarta - Killers releases theatrically in Japan this week following a successful premiere at Sundance. Here's how Sundance describes it:

Mr. Nomura is an eerily handsome, sharply dressed, sociopathic serial killer who preys on the women of Tokyo. In Jakarta, a world-weary journalist named Bayu finds himself unexpectedly falling into vigilantism after brutally killing two sadistic robbers. When each posts videos of his violent sprees online, the pair find one another on the Internet and begin a toxic and competitive duel. While Bayu clings to the hope that he can resume a normal life, Nomura continues to spill blood without remorse. Killing, advises Nomura, is something everyone ought to consider.

Take a look at the new trailer below.

[Full disclosure: XYZ Films, where I am a partner, are credited as associate producers on this one and are handling international sales.]

I wonder what film will have more problems getting a rating through the MPAA? Killers or the Raid 2? Would XYZ films be happy to release it as an NC-17 if it got that rating?

  • Probably The Raid, actually. The first one was originally assessed an NC-17 and it took a little bit of massaging to get the R. This one is more extreme. As for how they get released in cinemas, that's ultimately up to the distributors and, yes, Killers has US distribution in the works though it hasn't been announced yet. I'm very confident that no matter what both distributors will make sure the original, uncut versions are released on home video so they'll definitely be easily seen as intended.
