Bruce McDonald Returns To Horror With HELLIONS
November 1, 2013 TORONTO - Whizbang Films and Storyteller Pictures are thrilled to announce that principal photography got underway this week on their Halloween horror thriller HELLIONS.
Penned by Pascal Trottier (The Colony) HELLIONS is directed by veteran cult helmer Bruce McDonald (Highway 61, Hard Core Logo) whose psychological zombie thriller Pontypool made it onto several 'Best Zombie Movies Of All Time' lists including a top 25 published by Entertainment Weekly.com in 2010.
McDonald and producers Frank Siracusa (Hobo With A Shotgun) and Paul Lenart have tapped newcomer Chloe Rose ("Degrassi: The Next Generation"), whose recent turn in The Lesser Blessed grabbed industry attention, as their lead.
Rose plays Dora Vogel, a pregnant teen faced with a Halloween night from hell when three malevolent trick-or-treaters come knocking at her door.
Reluctant to share further details at this early stage, producer Siracusa says "It is thrilling to be underway on this project and very auspicious that we are getting started Halloween week. The movie that Pascal has written is a classic Halloween horror - it completely embodies the spirit of All Hallow's Eve and has the perfect balance of scares, fun and blood."
"We are elated by the team we've been able to put together on this film," adds producer Lenart. "Bruce showed how well he could tease and frighten an audience with Pontypool. Just imagine what he'll be able to do with a band of hellish trick-or-treaters... Chloe Rose's Dora is going to blow people away-- and not just because she's packing a shotgun. She's a gorgeous ingénue with the spirit of a rock-n-roller."
Rounding out the team are Norayr Kasper ("Cracked", Walk All Over Me) as director of photography, Andrew Berry (5ive Girls, The Husband) is production designer, Sarah Millman (The Husband, Trigger) is costume designer, and Duff Smith (The Husband, You Are Here) will edit the film.
HELLIONS is produced by Frank Siracusa of Whizbang Films and Paul Lenart of Storyteller Pictures. The film is produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada.
