Twitchvision: Jason Gorber Talks ELYSIUM, WE'RE THE MILLERS and LOVELACE

Jason Gorber, Featured Critic
This week's big release is Elysium, which I had frankly mixed feelings about. As I said on Twitter, it seems that even Oblivion, with its abandonment of originality yet maintaining a pleasing aesthetic and engaging narrative, proved the better attempt at making high concept sci-fi this moviegoing season.

Also talked Lovelace, another ambitious but highly flawed film, this one about the travails of the pornography industry. Finally, I chat about We're The Millers, a film I had little hope for, yet found in its mix of high concept humor and strong performances quite a bit to recommend about it.

For a bonus, you get a rare Friday afternoon tease of the weekend box office, along with our regular Sunday show with the inimitable Scott Laurie.

    Heavy handed metaphors...?

Yeah, to be fair District 9(2009) had that problem too, but I was willing to overlook it because it was Neill Blomkamps debut feature.

But now you are saying he has same problem here...?

That might cause trouble.......well, I will see it.

"Also talked Lovelace, another ambitious but highly flawed film"

    WHAT?????

No, no and no......there can be NO flaws in a movie starring Amanda Seyfried as a famed pornstar...hahhahahhahahha....

We're the Millers (2013) was that fun...?

Well, I want to see Anistons body double.....she seems to have a nice ass.....hahhahahahahhahahah

Great work, as always I wish you had full hour with Scott Laurie, you guys do a great job, thanks.

Gorber is wrong about Elysium, it's a far better film than OBLIVION, if only because it is a straightforward no-nonsense one that isn't trying to hide tired twists, but rather only confident about getting its business done. I was pretty happy with the film, in fact for me it feels like the more-real-in-spirit reboot or ROBOCOP that I suspect the actual reboot will be. Throw in some fine Johnny Mnemonic elements, and that makes me a happy camper.

  • quiet, you.
