Murnau, Lang, Mizoguchi And Hawks In Masters Of Cinema Oct-Nov Line-Up

James Marsh, Asian Editor
Eureka Entertainment unveiled the October and November new releases on its consistently impressive Masters of Cinema label earlier today, and it proves to be yet another stunning line-up of classic movies from the four corners of our fair planet.

October sees Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse The Gambler get a Blu-ray world premiere, to accompany last year's release of sequel The Testament of Dr. Mabuse. Also coming to Blu-ray that month is Howard Hawks' seminal western, Red River, starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift, and a limited edition dual-format 8-film set of late classics from Japanese legend, Mizoguchi Kenji.

In November we have the previously announced release of F.W. Murnau's vampire classic Nosferatu, which comes to Blu-ray following a UK theatrical release that begins with a screening at Film4FrightFest in London this weekend. Also out that month is the first in a series of multi-film releases as part of an exclusive partnership with Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Foundation. This first release will include Metin Erksan's Dry Summer, Ahmed El Maanouni's Trances and Ermek Shinarbaev's Revenge.

These all look to be incredibly exciting releases, with Red River and Nosferatu likely to prove huge crossover sellers for the label, while that Mizoguchi box set has "Christmas Present" written all over it for discerning cineastes everywhere. We'll bring you more details about these releases as we get it, but in the meantime check out the artwork in the gallery below.

From the press release:

Proudly presenting films from 6 different countries, spanning 67 years, and encompassing classic Hollywood, silent cinema, and the finest in global art cinema, The Masters of Cinema Series is as eclectic as ever in its October and November 2013 line-up - a 5-release slate that includes directors F.W. Murnau, Kenji Mizoguchi, Howard Hawks, Fritz Lang, Metin Erksan, Ahmed El Maanouni, and Ermek Shinarbaev.

In October, we welcome Hollywood legend Howard Hawks into the series for the first time with his John Wayne Western classic Red River alongside the worldwide Blu-ray première of Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler. [Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler.] and a strictly limited-edition box-set of late-career films by Kenji Mizoguchi.

More cinematic treats follow in November with a gorgeous new restoration of F.W. Murnau's vampire horror classic Nosferatu (following a UK theatrical release just in time for Halloween), and the very first multi-film release in an exciting new partnership with Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving and restoring neglected films from around the world.

Across 5 standout releases, which include no less than 14 films, world and UK premières abound, with new restorations aplenty, Eureka! Entertainment's Masters of Cinema Series continues its quest to release the very finest in world cinema, using the very best available materials, all with a meticulous attention to detail and design.
