Miyazaki Happy For EVANGELION Creator To Direct NAUSICAA 2

As reported by ANN, Miyazaki Hayao was asked in a TV interview if he was interested in making a sequel to his early classic Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, to which he replied, "No, I don't. I don't really feel like doing it, but Anno (Hideaki) keeps on saying, 'I want to do it! I want to do it!' So I tell him now that I've come to think lately that if he wanted to do it, it would be fine for him to do it."

Miyazaki's Nausicaa film was based on the first parts of his own manga, and Anno worked as a key animator on the film before later going on to direct the landmark anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. The pair has recently worked together on the short film Giant God Warrior and Miyazaki's latest film The Wind Rises
Around the Internet:
  • Holy fuuuuuuu!! As much as I love EVA, Anno's best work is Kare Kano. :)

Considering Anno Hideaki's own history with the original...this just sounds right.

I saw "Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind" with my 8 year old son at at Studio Ghibli festival here in Minneapolis not long ago. It was stunning. One of the greatest and most memorable experiences I've ever had a theater. I'd love to see a sequel!

I think the mangas to Nausicaa are the best thing that Miyazaki has ever done(and thats saying something, considering his work), and have always wanted to see the rest of it made into a couple of films. It would be kind of strange accepting another director other than Miyazaki for them, but I would be open to it.

It'd be pretty damn awesome if this happened. :)
