BREAKING: Matt Damon In Negotiations To Return As Jason Bourne

Todd Brown, Founder and Editor
[Universal has issued a statement denying this report but we remain very confident in our sources.]

Is Jason Bourne making a comeback on the big screen? Universal is working hard to make it happen, with Twitch learning that the studio is in simultaneous negotiations with both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for both to return to the Bourne franchise. We're told Damon is only interested if Greengrass is directing so there are clearly a lot of moving parts here but if all comes together we could be seeing the return of the director and star of one of the strongest American action franchises of recent years.

And what, praytell, does this mean for Jeremy Renner and his Aaron Cross character? It's not an either / or scenario between Renner and Bourne with Universal planning to continue with the Aaron Cross stream of Bourne films regardless of what happens on the Damon front, with potential crossover / merger of the character's stories to be sorted out if and when Damon signs back up.
Around the Internet:
  • Adam Smith

After seeing Renner, I think it's time for Damon to quit.

  • Renner's Bourne spin-off was unmitigated crap. Who bankrolled that! Big Pharma? Why not? Hollywood/ Pentagon would not be hostile to it. As well, When that flick ended, I honestly thought that we were half way through the movie. But who needed more of a bad thing?

  • Adam Smith

I don't think Big Pharma came off looking so good. The ending was a bit abrupt, I agree, but I enjoyed the film as a whole. It was a lot better than the last one with Damon.

  • Brian Mathieson

Good. I like Matt so much, but Jeremy Renner is the shit!

  • BourneBuff

There were 3 books written by Ludlum, the rest were written by Eric Van Lustbader and they are pretty awesome too.

Nah i'm just kidding they're actually shockingly bad, how they still get published i've no idea.

The Bourne Identity (1980) - Ludlum did the trilogy
    The Bourne Supremacy (1986)
    The Bourne Ultimatum (1990)

The Bourne Legacy (2004) - Van Lustbader did the rest.
    The Bourne Betrayal (2007)
    The Bourne Sanction (2008)
    The Bourne Deception (2009)
    The Bourne Objective (2010)
    The Bourne Dominion (2011)
    The Bourne Imperative (2012)

Let's hope they stay well away from these novels if they make another movie.
I'd love to see Damon back as Bourne, the Cross character and story though were rubbish. Was sorely disappointed with that.

Excellent news! Damon's bourne is the best among all action thrillers, so Universal will do much good to their financials if they can bring him back. If it happens it will surely be a blockbuster!

    Snag

  • Michael Lang

After four B.O. bombs in a row, this is rather predictable.

We bought a zoo wasn't a bomb, it grossed 120 Million and received positive reviews.

  • SuperFanBoy12

  • David Brown

Ludlum wrote 3, but I think there have been two written since he died.

  • bruce

NOoo please no shakey cam again!!!!! would love a Cross/Bourne story tho !!!

  • I absolutely hate shaky cam. It's attitude, straight up. When they shove that down our throats, it's because they enjoy the freedom to abuse us.

  • QTN
