Time To Get Wasted! First Trailer for Edgar Wright's THE WORLD'S END Lands!

James Marsh, Asian Editor
The first teaser trailer for The World's End, the third and final entry in Edgar Wright's "Cornetto Trilogy" has just landed, and it manages to hit all the right beats. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan play five childhood friends who reunite 20 years after an epic 12-stop pub crawl attempt, hoping to finally complete the challenge, only to discover that they're about to get annihilated - by aliens!

That's right, as they attempt to work through their personal and inter-personal problems, it appears that the Earth is dealing with a slight problem of its own - an alien invasion. Suffice to say, there will be plenty of irreverent humour, knowing nods to classic sci-fi - most prominently Invasion of the Body Snatchers - and probably a bag or two of pork scratchings in store for our plucky heroes.

Rosamund Pike, Reece Shearsmith, Mark Heap and plenty of other familiar faces turn up, as do some memorable gags - namely the fence jump - albeit with a welcome new twist. While this first glance isn't exactly side-splittingly funny, the tone is at least consistent with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and I am confident that Wright and Co. are saving the film's best moments for opening night. • doesn't look like Jessica Hynes is in it. :-(

I hope this does well for Edgar Wright. I still have not worked out how or why the outstanding Scott Pilgrim vs The World wasn't a huge money-making hit. Sometimes there's just no justice in the world.

  • That's pretty simple, actually. It was already too expensive when greenlit, then went way over budget, then was marketed horribly. Scott Pilgrim is a good movie that cost about three times more than the market would support: BAD planning on Universal's part from day one coupled with on set issues and dodgy advertising killed it. This one'll do fine, though.

Gonna second Sonny. Scott Pilgrim as a concept is fun as hell. In reality the movie was just pretty damn terrible.

I'll chime in with the antis since obviously someone out there will be keeping score. I thought the comic books was something special, but all the heart was lost in a film that turned out to be nothing but tics and gloss. I like many of Wright's other movies, though; and I think the preview above looks great.

Both of you are nutz! Scott Pilgrim was very entertaining, even to friends i knew that never got any of the video game references. Nicely paced and plenty of action. I do agree that marketing could have been better but i hyped this movie up to coworkers and we went in mass on day one release.

LOVE Scott Pilgrim....right across the board excellent bit of hybrid-filmmaking there.

  • Sonny Hooper

And it really wasn't very good.

  • Felix Tsang

    this looks AWESOME.

  • Mad_Dog_Yayan

Can't agree more. Sonny, if you don't like then don't watch it. Considering you don't like Scott Pilgrim, it's clear you're just not a fan of Edgar Wright's style

  • Bos

Scott Pilgrim is pure shit, but i like Edgar Wright's "Shaun" and "Fuzz" and this trailer too, so...your point make not much sense to me

  • Sonny Hooper

    No, it doesn't.

  • Jose Carlos Laureano

    Um, yes it does. :D
