Mickey Rourke Is Back In THE EXPENDABLES 3

Action legend Sylvester Stallone took to twitter last night to drop a few names and provide some update on The Expendables 3. Among his major reveal is the return of Mickey Rourke.  Rouke originally appeared only in the first Expendables as Tool, the recruitment liaison and armorer for the team as well as their tattoo artist.  His strong performance in his role bought a surprising emotional depth in an overly macho action flick.

In other related news, Wesley Snipes is totally game to "fight to the top again", as Sly puts it, while he remains cryptic on Antonio Banderas and Jackie Chan possibly joining the action ensemble film.  Sly also mention that he has been scouting locations in eastern Europe and Asia.

On which action films influence him on the making of EX3, here's what he had to say:

Thinking about Raiding, THE RAID....think about it... We believe we can do better than the RAID, which was an excellent film... Raising the bar... That is bloody awesome to hear.  As a huge supporter of The Raid here on Twitch, it seems Sly know what works in action and its assuring to us action fans that hes heading at the right direction.  And the direction I mean is the stomp-on-your-balls and seriously maim-a-poor-bastard-to-pieces kind of direction!

it needs Kurt Russell. But then again, just about every movie would benefit from a little Kurt Russell.

How about working to match the best of your own ouvre, notwithstanding trying to better one of the best actionmovies of the last ten years?

  • Blabity Blah

The Raid was over-raided. Not near as good as I was lead to believe.

I find the Expendables film series very frustrating. I get excited for each film but then after I watch them I am just left with a Meh! it was ok I guess.

They really need to drop a few characters like Randy Couture or at least reduce his role to being the Bar Owner at the gangs local Bar.... and the Chuck Norris cameo in the 2nd was so terrible.

I'll probably get excited for this 3rd film but part of me is not holding out much hope

  • Larry Tate

Completely agree. Let's hope that Sly hires a decent screenwriter this time as well.

don't think it'll be too difficult to do better than the Raid. that movie was awful. i admit there were some cool scenes, but as a whole the movie was bad.

  • imaginaryGHOST

Disagree. One of the best, most fresh pure adrenalin action movies I have seen in many years. It was awesome.

"We believe we can do better than the RAID". Tssss, um yeeeah... I don't think so.

I just realized in the conversation of the first tweet on the Raid, Sly talks possibly getting Iko Uwais if he can speak English.

  • Also, while I've never been able to verify it, I'd heard way back when The Raid first released that Sly had asked for a role to be written for a certain OTHER cast member from The Raid for Expendables 3. We'll see where that lands.

  • Simon de Bruyn

    Every dog has its day

  • He's still working on his English to get it up to performance quality but Iko can hold down a perfectly good conversation in English. No problem.

Sounds good enough for me. I don't foresee Iko delivering a drawn out monologue for this kind of movie. Action speaks louder than words.
