Buy A Trap. Kill A Cub.

What do you mean you don't think 'Belgium' when you think 'horror'? Okay, fine, the nation known best for its monastic beer has never been much of a player in the horror scene but director Jonas Govaerts is looking to change that with Cub. With a string of (rightfully) acclaimed short films behind him, Govaerts is now preparing his debut feature with a talented team around him including Bullhead cinematographer Nicolas Karakatsanis and executive producer Richard Christian Matheson.

Cub a horror movie about Sam, a twelve-year-old imaginative boy who goes to camp in the woods with his pack of cub scouts. Together with the other cubs and the leaders of the pack Sam finds himself in a dark wood where a psychopathic poacher and his masked helper live. What the cubs don't know is that the poacher has laid out ingenious, lethal traps all over the forest.
Yep, Govaerts is getting his slasher on with this one and the production is running a crowd funding campaign with all money raised going directly towards creating the traps used in the film. Want to know more? Check out the video below and the IndieGoGo page here.

Have to check out this director's short films. The fund-raising slogan "buy a trap kill a cub" is a riot.

Thinking about Belgium Left Bank/Linkeroever also springs to mind.

Calvaire has moments of pure mad-cap insanity: esp the dance scene. What has Fabrice du Welz been up to post Vinyan?

  • quellcode

He made another film called "Colt 45" menawhile which hopefully will be out this year. As in his previous films, Benoit Debie ("Spring Breakers", "Enter The Void") was the DoP. Really looking forward to this.

  • This one shares a producer with Left Bank.

  • quellcode

It also shares the cinematographer. :-)

    - i'm probably in the minority, but "Belgium" always makes me think of Calvaire.
That said, this looks interesting. i'm down.

  • Less Lee Moore

Have you seen ASYLUM BLACKOUT? That's a Belgian film I found rather unpleasantly memorable.

  • And that's a good reaction, indeed.
