Jason Gorber, Featured Critic
Continuing the magician theme this week, with talk of the disappointing Burt Wonderstone, along with that magical year of 2006 where competing magician movies tried to impress at the cinema.

    Hello Mister Gorber,

can I ask: why the whole piece on 'Burt Wonderstone' when it seems to be neither a success with the critics nor with the audience? And why not a tad more on 'The Call' that is definitely a Box Office surprise by trying to explain who/why/how? And about the movies with magic at their center, it would have been nice to acknowledge Clive Barker's 'Lord of Illusions' - but that's just me being all nerdy and all.

Finally, because I asked you many whys, I'd like to know if you choose completely what your piece will be about, or does the editorial team of the news show ask you to cover some specific ground?

    Thank you for your time,
    Cedric Jouarie

  • Hey, thanks for watching!

Couple reasons - we set what we're talking about before the Box Office numbers come out - I actually missed THE CALL press screening in favour of some little film called EVIL DEAD.

I had a whole list of other magic things to talk about (really wanted to bring up Gob/ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) but time was short.

Your last question gets to the heart of it - I propose a couple films, and then we go back-and-forth depending on that week's story. Wasn't my call to talk about Jim Carrey, but give the Canadian audience you can see why that would be of interest. I dictated what film we were talking about, and the subject around that film was a shared decision.

Normally, we have a bunch of stuff to talk about, but as you know this is kind of a slow season - even next week there will be plenty more to talk about.

    Thanks for watching!
