First Peek at Pang Ho Cheung's SDU: SEX DUTIES UNIT

James Marsh, Asian Editor
Hot off the success of last year's riotous sex comedy Vulgaria, Pang Ho Cheung re-unites with his onscreen alter ego, Chapman To, for SDU: Sex Duties Unit. Centering on Hong Kong's Special Duties Units (essentially the city's answer to SWAT), the film follows one particular team through the ups and downs of both their high-risk jobs, and their more debauched personal lives - with much of the action taking place in the neighbouring sin city that is Macau.

The tone here is definitely similar to Pang's previous work, particularly Vulgaria and Men Suddenly in Black and the film, which also stars Shawn Yue and a host of other familiar faces, is scheduled to hit Hong Kong screens this summer. Check out the first teaser below.

Synopsis:
The Special Duties Unit (SDU) is an elite paramilitary tactical unit of the Hong Kong Police Force and is considered one of the world's finest in its role. But being the best carries its own burdens. Like everyone else, they go through troubles with love, with family and with their jobs. And sometimes they get horny.

This touching story is about Special Duties Unit Team B and their trip to Macau for a weekend of unadulterated debauchery.

I haven´t seen those yet, but this looks entertaining, thanks Mr Marsh.

  • i hope to god pang ho cheung is not gonna become a one trick pony. sure the sex comedy thing is big in the greater chine region now but i rather want the pang ho cheung who makes exodus and beyond our ken and you shoot i shoot, id also be interested if he tackles a more traditional hk genre like gangster films with his touch.

I think you've just proved yourself that Pang's pony has considerably more than one trick.

  • thats exactly what i mean,im saying I dont want him to settle into one. not saying he is one.

this trailer to me seems not that differnet from men suddenly in black and vulgaria, which are the 2 of his films i actually think are not him at his creative peak (ok, men suddenly in black one is pretty damn good)

just a cautionary tale, wilson yip used to give us juliet in love and bullet over summer. now he's given us that magician movie and endless, endless donnieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
