Nick Cheung and Aaron Kwok Pair Up in the CONSPIRATORS Trailer (aka THE DETECTIVE 3)

James Marsh, Asian Editor
Far and away the best thing that Danny and Oxide Pang have produced in recent years is their Bangkok-based cop thriller, The Detective, starring Aaron Kwok. While the sequel was a distinct drop in quality from its predecessor, the fact that Nick Cheung has joined the cast for part three has me actually looking forward to this.

Bizarrely the English title of the film is Conspirators, which while hinting at some kind of crime-fighting partnership between Cheung and Kwok, it does unnecessarily disassociate itself from the previous two films. In Chinese the films were called "C grade Detective" and "B grade Detective" respectively, and this pattern appears to be continuing to some degree, with an "A" motif in the Chinese title, though the second character also appears to be different to those in previous installments.

Other than that, however, the trailer seems to promise all the same dubious thrills the Pangs have become famous for over the years - sepia toned cinematography, loud, shouty performances and dodgy CG effects work. Here's hoping that Conspirators can also deliver in the cop thriller stakes.

I like the first two movies, well the second one mainly because I liked the character of Tam. Makes me want to hear the Thai song "Me Panda" again. Hehe.

By the way, is Liu Kai-Chi in this film, reprising his role?

I'm not sure if Liu is back. Didn't see him in the trailer, just racking my brain to remember if he survived part 2 or not! Really can't recall. Would've thought he'll be back.
