Lord of the Memes: The Soviet Version of THE HOBBIT For Your Viewing Pleasure

Jason Gorber, Featured Critic
The Internet is occasionally a remarkable place, a wonderland where people can plop up things that you simply wouldn't have believed to have existed.

Some intrepid YouTubers have put onto the video sharing service the 1985 Soviet film Хоббит, or The Hobbit, complete with crappy sets, spangly wizards, and a slew of Dwarves that come over for a dinner party. While a paltry 70 minutes, this is still a pretty fascinating look at the retelling of the classic tale from an entirely different vantage point.

While the task of subtitling goes on in earnest for the real video, some entrepreneurs have taken to doing the Downfall thing, which frankly might be the better way to view the film. If you'd rather, you can click here to see a very angry version of the film indeed.

For now, I'll choose to learn to speak Russian via Dwarvish songs and stick to the original. I also hope that the newfound celebrity of this production results in a slew of fantastical costumes come Halloween. Just for love of all that is Gollum, try not to make any HFR jokes.

Enjoy!

Yes, where Jason links to the "angry version" of the film - fake subs have been added that are very funny indeed.
