Sundance 2013: Watch The First Mesmerizing Teaser For Shane Carruth's UPSTREAM COLOR

Ben Umstead, East Coast Editor
Set to make its premiere in the US Dramatic competition at Sundance in January, Upstream Color is Shane Carruth's long-awaited second feature after his 2004 Grand Jury Prize winning time-travel flick Primer. After a vague if enticing plot synopsis and a small collection of provocative stills, including the one you see above of Carruth in a bathtub with Amy Seimetz , today brings us the first real look at the movie itself in the form of a teaser trailer, and well... if it isn't a spectacular and altogether head-scratching 53 seconds. Have a watch below and let us know what you think in the comments. Again, here is the plot synopsis from the Sundance program:

A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.

I spend a lot of time bitching about trailers--how cookie-cutter they all are, how epilepsy inducing, how they all use that irritating percussion sound to introduce the production company bumper--so it would be inequitable for me to ignore the fact that I thought this trailer was superb. It tells me nothing, though--it may even be dishonest. The synopsis above turned me off as much as the teaser turned me on.

Stylish and slick.....but like you mentioned, Mr Umstead, headscratching.
But I liked Primer so, yeah, I like this teaser, thanks Mr Umstead.

Hah, it looks like the same house from Primer in this trailer.
