Deadline is reporting that veteran Chinese actor Wang Xueqi, who starred alongside Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse and Leon Lai in Teddy Chen's 2009 film Bodyguards And Assassins, has been cast in Shane Black's Iron Man 3. Wang's name has long been associated with the Marvel/DMG co-production, which will resume filming in Beijing on Monday, but the news is apparently now official. According to the report, Wang will be taking on the "villainous" role of Dr. Wu, rather than that of Chen Lu, which actor Andy Lau was at one time connected to, and is the alter-ego of villain Radioactive Man.

Wang will appear opposite Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Sir Ben Kingsley, among others, in the latest installment of Marvel's multi-faceted superhero juggernaut. Perhaps this role is something of a compromise, now that we know Kingsley is playing The Mandarin - an originally Chinese character - with Wang playing second fiddle to him. Maybe he will be Radioactive Man, or perhaps Marvel is going to pull some kind of casting fake the way Warners did with the casting of Ken Watanabe as Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins and Wang will be The Mandarin after all..that's just coming off the top of my head, but would be pretty cool.

Everything we have seen so far from Iron Man 3 points to a darker, moodier piece, and Wang certainly has the acting chops to bring some international class to the project. The film is due to open worldwide in 3 May 2013.

Wang Xueqi is one hell of an actor, I just hope he won't be completely wasted in a nothing role, as the great Li Bing Bing was in RE: 5 (yeah still haven't managed to forget this film, but I'm working on it).
