That's A Big Tower O' Zombies! Here's The Trailer For WORLD WAR Z

For a moment, let's forget all the pre-production, production and post-production woes we've heard about on Marc Forster's adaption of Max Brooks' zombie apocalypse novel, and take a gander at the first real look we have of the Brad Pitt starring uber zombie epic. Well, what do we get? Plenty of running, plenty of CG undead hordes, a lot of family members clutching other family members and the military telling Mr. Pitt that he is important. The overall sense I'm getting? Feels a bit like Spielberg's take on War Of The Worlds. What say you?

I'm not really a fan of zombies, but I loved the book World War Z. LOVED it. However, I had reservations about the movie because what makes the book so great is that it was told as a series of individual, personal stories. Little scenes that add up over the span of the book to create a much larger picture. That wouldn't have been easy to do in a movie, and this trailer makes it look like they didn't even try. I understand poetic license, but why make a movie based on a book if you're going to change everything that made the book great until the end result is completely unrecognizable from the source material?

Rigor mortis passes fairly quickly, actually. Bodies don't stay that way. A better explanation is the breakdown of muscle tissue because it's dead and rotting. And a similar breakdown in the control centers of the brain that manage balance, etc.

I am looking forward to this. I've learned to separate my baggage with films. There are times when a film should just be taken for what it is. If you go into a Transformer's movie expecting a great story and a faithful realisation of one of your childhood cartoons, you'll be disappointed. If you go in ready to appreciate some epic special effects and "fast food" dialogue, it's not so bad. I won't be expecting this movie to be all that faithful to the novel, nor will I be expecting it to hold to the more common idea's of what a zombie is, but I'll be looking forward to those Zombie Tsunami's!

Yeah, aside from the great variety of perspectives, the book was great just because of the scale involved involved as well - between the Battle of Yonkers - the best the US military had wasn't enough or even the right tools for the job - against a bunch of shufflers - nothing about running, jumping, just slow methodical practically oblivious deadly plodding.

Can't see the future tactics of the book working either against what they're trying to show in the movie :(

From what I've read, it seems that the story of the movie is set DURING the zombie war, and Pitt is sent around the world to try and find a way to stop the zombies. The book was set more after the war had ended, and the (what would be) Pitt character is building a report on why it happened and how it got so bad. It looks to me like the filmmakers used the novel as a starting point and tried to make a good movie without worrying about what fans of the novel might think. As a fan of the novel, I'll be fine with that if, in the end, they DID make a good movie.

I can imagine people may be disappointed about how close it isn't to the book, or that a different version of zombie is used.

But I'm not familiar with the source material, and if people hadn't told me it was about zombies I wouldn't have known.

Mind you, I think a malevolent hive-intelligence taking over people by the scores (what this kinda looks like) would be DAMN scary. Trailer works for me.

At the beginning of the trailer, we see Pitt's character standing in the street. An officer on a motorcycle approaches and instructs him to get back in the car. Mere seconds later the dump truck barrels into him, pushing vehicles further up the street. We were able to see clearly down the street in the previous shot, at least a full block. There was nothing coming. The dump truck came out of nowhere. It would have been pushing vehicles out of its way before reaching their exact location. They would have heard it and reacted. Sure it was shocking, but it's incredibly lazy editing and filmmaking.

I can't see what part of Brook's book was adapted in this preview... it just looks like another stupid action flick

Very mixed feelings about this one. I don't need it to be just like the book, but I'm turned off by the zombie hoard flowing like water or like angry ants. It just looks like a unnatural cheesy CG mess. I'm also not a fan of the fact that the first minute of the trailer could pass for a teaser for the next Transformers movie.

Looks pretty good. CGI zombies not too bad, not I Am Legend bad fortunately. Hope it all works.

I'm not interested if the gamer / turned ninja warrior dude isnt included. Seriously though, the great thing about the book were the different perspectives. I don't really understand how this relates to the novel at all. I mean, no big deal, but a lost opportunity.

Since zombies aren't real, any interpretation is valid. If zombies suffer from a brain infection, this depiction makes more sense to me. I've never understood why they would shuffle around slowly. I'm not familiar with the book. If this isn't a faithful adaptation I can understand the frustration, but I don't see how this is wrong.

With adaptation, I'm fine with them either being faithful or nothing like. It's when they seem to be trying/claiming to be faithful but stray too much that I get annoyed. This looks close enough to the "nothing like" side of the scale for me to be okay with it. As for what a zombie is, I think culture has generally pinned them down to something like the "Romero" style. The problem with running zombies is that they're supposed to be moving corpses. 28 Days got around this by making them infected people, rather than the walking dead, but fast zombies always tend to give zombie fans a bit of an issue.

What I saw in the trailer was had more in common with an Asylum film... "TsunZombie" Get it, Tsunami + Zombie.

Yeah fast zombies bad lol. This movie looks awseome. A heck of a lot better than Romero's last few pieces of garbage. he sucks bad now. Ill take fast zombies over pople still using money in his waset of time movies
